  • Woo Lee, Mr

    Non-Executive Board Chairman

      Mr. Woo Lee is Senior Vice President of Barrick Gold Corporation and Head of Corporate Affairs for the Asia-Pacific.  His previous position was President of Barrick China.  He has over 30 years of experience in East Asia, working with government officials, business leaders, non-governmental organizations, media and other stakeholders.  Mr. Lee was previously Senior Advisor and Managing Director at JL Thornton & Company, where he advised the firm’s founder and Barrick Executive Chairman, John Thornton, and led its government, commercial and non-profit projects in Asia.  Prior to entering the private sector, Mr. Lee worked as an American diplomat in the U.S. State Department for 16 years, serving in progressively senior positions at American embassies and consulates in Japan, Australia, China and the Philippines. 
      Mr. Lee is a member of the board of directors of Barrick (Niugini) Limited and Argentina Gold (Bermuda) II Limited.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian studies from Yale University.  Mr. Lee’s foreign languages are Japanese, Korean and Mandarin.

  • Shaoyang Shen, Mr

    Managing Director

      Mr Shaoyang Shen is currently Managing Director of Barrick (Niugini) Limited ("BNL"), nominated by Zijin Mining (Group) Limited ("Zijin"), one of the two shareholders of the company. Mr Shen has more than 10 years of operations management and investment experience in the mining industry. Prior to joining Zijin Mining, he held  senior executive positions with Silvercorp Metals Inc., a Toronto Stock Exchange listed mining company, including as Chief Operating Officer of the company and Vice President for China Operations. He also served as director of Pretium Resources Inc., a Toronto Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange listed Canadian mining company from 2015 to 2018. 

  • Chad Coulin, Mr


      Mr. Chad Coulin is General Manager for Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL), and has been with the Barrick group for over 12 years in a number of senior positons. Prior to joining Barrick, he spent 6 years in the Oil & Gas industry, working throughout Europe, Asia and North America. Mr. Coulin is a director of Requian ESG and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a doctorate in industrial systems engineering.

  • Gertrude Tamade, Ms


      Ms. Gertrude Tamade is currently the Senior Legal Counsel with Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL). She served as a Senior Associate with private law firms for 9 years in Port Moresby dealing in Commercial Litigation before joining BNL as a Litigation Lawyer in 2012. Ms. Tamade graduated with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours at the University of Papua New Guinea and has a Masters in Commercial Law from the University of Melbourne. She is also a Councillor of the Papua New Guinea Law Society Council.

  • Guozhu Qiu, Mr

    Non-Executive Director

      Mr. Guozhu Qiu, a postgraduate in MBA from Xiamen University in China, has over 10 years’ experience relevant to corporate governance and business management of operations in the metals industry. Currently, Mr. Qiu is the General Manager of Overseas Operations Department of Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd.
       Mr. Qiu joined Zijin Mining Group in 2008 and has successively held the posts of Head of the Board Office and General Manager and/or Chairman of both Zijin’s domestic and overseas companies including Jinbao Mining Co., Ltd. in Xinjiang, Lunsin (Russia) Co., Ltd. in Tuva Republic of Russia and Gold Mountains (H.K.) International Mining Co., Ltd. in Hong Kong.

  • Mark Hill, Mr

    Non-Executive Director

      Mr Mark Hill is currently Chief Operating Officer, LATAM and Australia Pacific for Barrick Gold Corporation. He was appointed chief investment officer of Barrick in September 2016, chairing its investment committee, and is a member of the Company's executive committee. Mr Hill has more than 25 years' experience in the mining industry, gained at BHP Billiton, AngloGold Ashanti, Placer Dome and WMC Limited. Mr Hill holds a bachelor's degree in mining engineering and a graduate diploma in mineral economics.

  • Kai Yiu, Mr

    Non-Executive Director

      Mr. Yiu graduated from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Accounting and has an MBA from the University of Hong Kong. He served as CFO of Norton Gold Fields Limited since 2015, responsible for all the finance, sales, purchase and supply chain functions of Australia gold mine operations. Previously, he served as Financial Controller of Gold Mountains (HK) International Mining Co, a subsidiary of Zijin Mining Co. He has extensive experience in cash resources planning and fund raising activities, also co-hosted roadshows and client meetings to raise seed capital and was involved in the set up and operation of an overseas mining fund of +US$100M.

      He has previously held positions with Ernst & Young and John Lees & Associates involved in M&A activities, fund raising and financial analysis.

  • The Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province, Papua New Guinea, is owned by the Porgera Joint Venture (PJV).

    It is operated by Barrick (Niugini) Limited (“BNL”) which owns 95 percent participating interest in PJV. The remaining 5% is owned by Mineral Resources Enga (MRE) Limited.
