Effective Friday 17 July, operator of the Porgera Gold Mine, Barrick (Niugini) Limited ("BNL") will reduce electrical supply to Porgera communities, which it currently provides free-of-charge. With this, the communities will now receive electricity supply starting at 6.00pm to 6.00am daily. BNL is working with important service providers such as the hospitals, the Police Station and the Courthouse, to ensure they continue to provide the necessary services to the community.

The Porgera Mine in Enga Province has suspended Mine operations in order to ensure the safety and security of employees and communities. This comes after the PNG Government's announcement Friday 24 April 2020, that it refused to extend the special mining lease to applicant and current operator Barrick (Niugini) Limited ("BNL"). Critical safety, security and environmental personnel at the Mine will remain operational during this period, and Mine Management is hopeful that full mining operations will resume in the future.

PJV Assay Lab awarded ISO 17025 Re-certification

After two years of hard work by the Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) Assay Laboratory team, on 1 March this year, PJV assay lab was re-certified to the ISO 17025 standard under the Papua New Guinea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (PNGLAS) to conduct Chemical Testing related to gold and sulphur assay processes. The last certificate expired in 2014 and the current re-certification will expire 1 March 2021.

The Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province, Papua New Guinea, is owned by the Porgera Joint Venture (PJV).

It is operated by Barrick (Niugini) Limited (“BNL”) which owns 95 percent participating interest in PJV. The remaining 5% is owned by Mineral Resources Enga (MRE) Limited.
